by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Over 500 athletes from 38 schools competed in the 35th Annual Warrior Classic Friday at Central High School.

The event will continue on Saturday with the semifinal round.

In the quarterfinals at class 160, Nucla's Trey Sickles defeated Fruita's Aiden Woomer, 4-3 in six overtimes. Montrose's Marcus Valasquez also advances to the semifinals with a 17-8 victory over Grand Valley's Michael Salazar.

In class 126, Palisade's Dalton Hannigan came from behind to beat Air Academy's Tyler Hanenberg, 7-3 in the quarterfinals. He will face Fernando Carrasco from Thunderbird in the semifinals on Saturday.

"I started off pretty slow today," Hannigan said. "Had a pretty rough first match, didn't wrestle too well. After that, I kind of got started. I'm pretty happy with how I wrestled today."

In 113's, Olathe's Austin Shank, the younger brother of former Warrior Classic Champion Zach Shank, advances to the semifinals. He defeated Rocky Mountain's Logan Newman, 4-1 Friday night.
