Two Maverick Soccer Players Honored As Conference's Players of the Week

by Josh Moser

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Sophomore Centermidfielder Phil Nuewirth and sophomore Goalkeeper Micah Conrads were honored Tuesday as the RMAC Conference's "Players of the Week."

Nuewirth receives the "Player of the Week" honor for the first time in his career as a Maverick.

"We've been scoring, we've been playing as a team," said Nuewirth. "It's an honor, this is my first time receiving the award since playing here, I'm really excited I got it."

Conrads was named the RMAC Conference's "Defensive Player of the Week."

The local product out of Cortez has recorded three consecutive shutouts.

"It was pretty sweet when I found out today that I was named the "RMAC Defensive Player of the Week," but I also felt bad about it because I think the award should be an "RMAC Defense of the Week" because I've got four guys in front of me that make my job real easy."

CMU (8-3-1, 6-2 RMAC) will host Colorado-School of Mines (7-3-2, 4-2-2 RMAC) Friday night at 7 p.m. at Walker Field.

*So. F/MF Stevie Palma and So. MF Tim Hofer were named Tuesday to the RMAC All-Academic 1st Team.
