Sources: Shawn Marsh, Brandon Harrison Among Leading Candidates for Central Position

by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Sources tell NewsChannel 5's Josh Moser that Shawn Marsh and Brandon Harrison are among the leading candidates to replace Vern McGee as Grand Junction Central's head football coach.

Marsh, the former offensive coordinator and interim coach at Colorado Mesa, is reportedly the front-runner. Prior to his position with the Mavs, he was the head coach at Fruita Monument for one season.

Meanwhile, Harrison, a former defensive coordinator at Grand Junction High School, said he interviewed for the position on Monday and will know more later this week. He said Central athletic director Randy Powell will be in touch by Friday.

Phil Johnston, the current running backs coach for Colorado Mesa, reportedly pulled his name out of the head coaching position to potentially work under Marsh as offensive coordinator. Johnston was one of his assistant coaches at Fruita.
