Shawn Marsh Officially Introduced As Central's New Head Football Coach

by Josh Moser

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Central Athletic Director Randy Powell, officially confirmed that Shawn Marsh will be the Warriors' new Head Football Coach, late Friday afternoon.

Marsh takes over for Vern McGee, returning to his high school alma mater.

Powell said that there were 35 applicants that were narrowed down to five finalists.

"Marsh was just the right fit for Central Football," said Powell.

Marsh had previously been the offensive coordinator at Colorado Mesa University under Joe Ramunno in 2011, leaving Fruita Monument H.S. after one season as their head coach.

Marsh also led Grand Junction High School to a State Championship appearance in 2005.

Current Fruita Monument linebackers coach, Darrell Simonton, has been asked to be Marsh's new defensive coordinator, while current Colorado Mesa assistant Phil Johnston has also been asked to join his staff. Johnston, initially was an applicant for the head coaching position at Central, before pulling his name out to link up with Marsh.

The Warriors were 0-10 in 2012 and have not put together a winning season since 2004.

Marsh will make all personnel decisions to complete his staff.

Haha! Wouldn't get your hopes up.. there's a reason he's been at every school in the valley. Too bad CHS couldn't see that!
