No. 25 CMU Holds off Western New Mexico To Stay Undefeated

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.- Colorado Mesa stayed undefeated (7-0,3-0 RMAC) holding off Western New Mexico (1-6, 0-3 RMAC), 63-50 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on Friday night at Brownson Arena.

Kelsey Sigl led all players with 17 points, while Katrina Selsor added 16 points for CMU. Sigl and Sharaya Selsor combined for 16 of the Mavericks 49 total rebounds---the Mavs out rebounded the Mustangs 49-30.

Bruna Deichmann recorded 14 points, six rebounds and four assists. Sharaya Selsor had 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists.

WNMU shot 33 percent (20-61) from the floor, while CMU shot 37 percent (19-51) in the contest. Each team tallied 15 turnovers each as the Mustangs forced 11-first-half CMU turnovers resulting in 12 points. CMU held a 29-28 halftime advantage.

The lead changed hands 10 times in the first half with the Mustangs holding the largest lead of six points with 10:22 remaining in the half.

In the second half with the scored tied at 36-36 (15:23) CMU went on a 9-0 run and never trailed again in the contest. The closest the Mustangs would come was six points (51-45) with 4:26 left in regulation. CMU outscored WNMU 12-5 in the final four minutes.

CMU will host New Mexico Highlands on Saturday evening. Tipoff is slated for 5:30 p.m.
