Montrose Outlasts Fruita For A Win In Their SWL Opener

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Montrose (3-4, 1-0 SWL) def. Fruita Monument (3-2, 2-1SWL), 28-25 Friday night at Stocker Stadium.

Montrose jumped out to a 21-3 lead at halftime thanks to touchdown runs by Angelo Youngren and Mike Rocha. Quarterback Drew Casbier also connected with Brennan Woodruff for a 69-yard scoring strike.

Vince Grasso scored a touchdown in the opening minutes of the 3rd quarter to cut the lead to 21-10, but Youngren quickly answered back with his second touchdown run making it a 28-10 game heading into the fourth quarter.

The Wildcat loss leaves the Southwestern League up for grabs with Grand Junction scheduled to face off against Montrose next week, with just three weeks remaining on the season.
