GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--The Colorado Mesa University baseball team had a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon at Suplizio Field against the Montana State-Billings Yellowjackets.

The Mavericks came out of an offensive slump to win by scores of 12-2 and 6-2 over MSUB. The Mavericks move their record to an even .500 at 3-3 while the Yellowjackets fall to 2-5-1 on the year.

In game one, Colorado Mesa scored in six of the eight innings they batted in on their way to a 12-2 win in the doubleheader opener. The Mavericks scored 12 runs on 12 hits with five of those being doubles.

Outfielder Garrett Carpenter went 3-for-4 with a double and Colton Schoelkopf 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs in the game.

Senior Aaron Corwin earned the win on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings and allowing one run on five hits, he walked four and struck out six. Corwin is now 1-0 on the season.

Junior Kyle Davis pitched in his first game in well over a year. Davis pitched three innings and allowed one run on three hits and earned a rare three inning save in the game.

In the nightcap, the Mavericks tallied a lone run in the fourth inning then exploded for five runs in the fifth to take a 6-2 win over the Yellowjackets. MSUB scored a pair of runs late but could not mount any more of a rally off of that.

Joey Danner pitched brilliantly in his first start as a Maverick. Danner pitched six innings of shutout baseball and allowed just three hits and struck out five to pick up his first win of the season.

Austin Kaiser and Garrett Carpenter each finished the game with two hits.

The two teams will conclude their four-game series tomorrow with a single nine-inning game at 12:00pm from Suplizio Field.
