Mavericks Fall to Regis 3-1

by KREX News Room

DENVER--The Colorado Mesa University Women's Soccer team was looking to take sole possession of first place and remain unbeaten as they took on the Regis Rangers on Sunday afternoon in Denver.

The Rangers rode two early first half goals en route to the 3-1 win over 13th ranked Colorado Mesa.

The Mavericks drop to 7-1-2 on the season and 4-1-1 in the RMAC while Regis improves to 7-2-1 and 4-0-1 in RMAC matches.

Regis jumped out to an early lead as they scored goals in the 2nd and 5th minutes of the match to take an early 2-0 lead.

Just after halftime, the Rangers tallied another goal and took a 3-0 lead.

The Mavericks tried climbing back into the match late. Renae McFadden scored her second goal of the season in the 66th minute and cut the Ranger lead to 3-1. But that was all the closer they would come.

Goalkeeper Sarah Schnetzler made 10 saves in the match.

The Mavericks will continue their road swing next weekend with a match on Friday in Alamosa against Adams State.
