Jacob Trujillo Talks Warrior Classic

by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Grand Junction stud wrestler Jacob Trujillo, ranked No. 1 in the state at 145 pounds, hopes to take it all at the Warrior Classic this weekend.

The sophomore is much more prepared four the tournament than he was last year. Right now he's 11-0, while this time last year, he'd missed a few weeks after breaking his hand in the preseason.

Trujillo managed to place third at the Warrior as a freshman, but has high hopes to take it all this year.

Although he moved up four weight classes after finishing second in the state at 120 pounds, it hasn't proved to be a big challenge for Trujillo.

Head coach Cole Allison said one of the biggest things the sophomore has had to get used to is the way people wrestle him now that he's made a name for himself.

The tournament starts Friday at 10 a.m. at Central High School with weigh-ins followed by the first round.
