by Josh Moser

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.-Grand Junction's Austin Berk was named as the state's top defensive end prospect for the class of 2013 by the Denver Post Monday afternoon.

Berk finished his junior season with a state-high 10.5 sacks, 52 tackles, two fumble recoveries and an interception.

Berk's father, Mike Berk played at UC-Boulder before transferring to Mesa State, now Colorado Mesa University where he became an All-American.

Berk has verbalized to Colorado State next year, becoming Jim McElwain's first recruit to do so.

Grand Junction senior DE/OL James Diamonte was an honorable mention on the 2013 recruiting list.

The Tigers are coming off of a 13-1 season last year, where they were ranked as the no. 1 team in the state for most of the year.
