Fruita Shocks No. 8 Grand Junction in Rivalry Game
GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Fruita Monument (2-4) shocked No. 8 Grand Junction (4-2), 20-14, on Homecoming Night, ending their four year drought against the Tigers.
Aiden Woomer capped off an 80-yard opening drive for the Wildcats scoring on a three-yard touchdown run with eight minutes remaining in the opening quarter.
Senior Spencer Faire added a 49-yard FG to make it 10-0 Fruita in the first 12 minutes.
Grand Junction finally got on the board in the second quarter on a quarterback keeper by Tyler Heinzma.
Penalties plagued the Tigers , in a game they thought they were going to run away with in the first half.
This is the first Southwestern League loss for the Tigers in two season and will host Durango High School next Friday at Stocker Stadium.
The Wildcats will play next Saturday in a an afternoon contest against Central.
