Former NFL LB Marques Harris Hasn't Forgotten GJ Roots

by Claire Brandon

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Marques Harris, former NFL linebacker and Grand Junction alumnus, hasn't forgotten his roots.

"It was always a dream to go on and play in the NFL," Harris said. "But I knew, one day, if I could make it to the NFL, I would always give back."

Harris held his second annual Celebrity Golf Scramble at Redlands Mesa Golf Course Friday, where he was reunited with a few familiar faces.

Celebrities included former Grand Junction and NFL quarterback Andrew Walter and Kyle Quincey, who was recently traded from the Colorado Avalanche to the Detroit Red Wings.

"Frankly, I wish this was a week long event," Walter said. "Unfortunately we have jobs and lives elsewhere, but I love to come home."

All proceeds benefit the Grand Junction High School football and wrestling programs.

Harris will conclude the weekend on Saturday with a kid's football camp at Stocker Stadium.
