Colton Burgon Named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.- Senior forward Colton Burgon was named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defense Player of the Week, after helping the Mavericks to back-to-back home victories over Colorado Christian (61-56) and Colorado School of Mines (75-56). Burgon has won the weekly award three times; twice for defense and once on the offensive end.

Burgon averaged 13.5 points and 4.5 rebounds per game (4.0 defensive rebounds per game) in CMU's wins at home over the Cougars and Orediggers. He had 13 points, seven boards (all defensive) and four blocked shots in the Mavericks 61-56 win over CCU. Burgon was 5-of-8 from the field and added three steals in 22 minutes of action.

In the Mavs' come from behind win over Colorado Mines on Saturday, Burgon and his teammates held the league's leading scorer (Trevor Wages) scoreless in the game (0-9). Burgon scored 14 points, had two rebounds, three assists and one steal against the Orediggers.

CMU overcame a 10-point halftime deficit and outscored the Orediggers 53-24 in the second half. CMU held Mines to 27.3 shooting percentage in the second half (6-22) and out-rebounded the Orediggers 20-10 in the second half.

Burgon leads the team averaging 17.0 points per game and 7.6 rebounds per contest. He is shooting .549 from the floor and has a team high 20 blocked shots and 20 steals.

CMU improved to 9-3 overall and 6-2 in RMAC play and will travel to CSU-Pueblo and UC-Colorado Springs this weekend.
