Central Stays Winless After Loss to Fruita in SWL Opener

by Josh Moser

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Fruita Monument (3-4, 2-0 SWL) def. Central (0-6, 0-1), 33-10 Friday night at Stocker Stadium.

Fruita Monument jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a set of field goals from Spencer Faire.

The Wildcats then mounted a drive that was capped off by a three-yard touchdown run by Aiden Woomer.

Wyatt McElwain added a touchdown of his own in the second quarter and Doran Wood ran back an interception to give the Wildcats a 26-0 lead headed into halftime.

Central's Michael Price connected with Josh Weller for a TD in the fourth following a safety that the Warriors converted after the ball was incorrectly spotted by the officials after a blocked field goal attempt that put Fruita back on their own goal line.

Fruita will host Montrose next week while Central will host Durango.
