CMU Triumphs Over Chadron State 68-37

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--Colorado Mesa (16-5, 13-4 RMAC) dominated the second half against visiting Chadron State Eagles (2-19, 2-15), winning 68-37 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action on Saturday night in Brownson Arena.

Jeff Hart led all players with 21 points, including 17 in the second half. Colton Burgon finished with 17 points and six rebounds. Colton had 10-first half points.

Mike Melillo recorded 14 points and a game high seven rebounds. Melillo was 7 of 10 from the floor.

CMU led 29-25 at intermission and quickly opened up a double digit lead in the second half. The Mavericks pushed the lead to 12 points with a 14-6 run to start the half.

The Eagles would score only 12 second half points, connecting on just 4 of 22 field goals. CMU scored 28 points in the paint in the second half, while limiting the Eagles to just two points in the paint.

Chadron State was led by Zac Bargen's 12 points and six rebounds. The Eagles shot 26 percent (11-42) from the field and had 13 turnovers.

CMU shot 56 percent (27-48) from the field, had 12 assists and five blocked shots. CMU out-rebounded the Eagles 32-28.

Colorado Mesa will travel to New Mexico Highlands next Friday night. On Saturday CMU will play at Western New Mexico.
