CMU Offensive Coordinator Bill O'Boyle Leaving Program After One Season

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Colorado Mesa Offensive Coordinator Bill O'Boyle is leaving the Mavericks after one season to take a coordinator position at FCS School Southern Illinois.

Coach O’Boyle spent seven seasons as the Head Football Coach at Chadron State College where he compiled a 57-21 overall record including three consecutive undefeated regular seasons and three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference titles from 2006-2008. Under his guidance the Eagles won 28 straight RMAC games and earned three NCAA Division II playoff berths; advancing to the quarterfinals in 2006 and 2007 and in 2008 advanced to the second round.

At the helm of the Chadron State program O’Boyle was the second-winningest football coach and his 75.0 winning percentage was the third highest for active coaches in Division II entering the 2011 season. Under his tutelage he coached 13 All-Americans and nine Academic All-Americans.

A three-time RMAC Coach of the Year, O’Boyle was named American Football Coaches Association Region 5 Coach of the Year twice and earned Coach of the Year accolades in 2006 from Sportexe Division II Coach of the Year and Football Gazette National Coach of the Year. He became the first Chadron State coach to earn the prestigious Lincoln Journal Star College Coach of the Year honor following the 2006 season. In 2007 he was named Liberty Mutual Division II Coach of the Year.

O’Boyle started as a graduate assistant and then assistant coach at Chadron State in the late 1980’s. From 1990-1994 he spent four years at Western Illinois University at Macomb, his alma mater, as the offensive line coach and strength coach. He returned to Chadron State and prior to his head coaching duties he was the Eagles offense line coach and strength coach. In 1999 he became the Eagles’ offensive coordinator.
