CMU Men's Hoops Place Six on Conference All-Academic Teams

GRAND JUNCTION, colo.-Colorado Mesa men's basketball team landed six student-athletes on the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference All-Academic teams announced Tuesday by the league office.

Jeff Hart earned RMAC All-Academic First Team recognition. Mike Melillo was named Second Team All-Academic. Mac Alexander, Chandler Burgon, Kevin Screen and Landon Vermeer were named RMAC All-Academic Honor Roll.

Jeff Hart is a four-time RMAC All-Academic honoree. Hart carries a 3.80 GPA in Business. He is averaging 13.1 points per game, 3.3 rebounds per game and shooting 52 percent from the floor.

RMAC Second Team All-Academic honors for Mike Melillo. A two-time All-Academic recipient, Melillo has a 3.68 GPA in Business. He is averaging 9.9 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game. Melillo was named RMAC Offensive Player of the Week for November 12.

Mac Alexander, an Exercise Science major, has played in six games this season. A two-sport athlete at CMU, Alexander played football as a freshman. He is in his second season as a member of the basketball team.

Chandler Burgon is a Business major and two-time RMAC All-Academic honoree. Burgon returns to the Maverick lineup this weekend after coming off shoulder surgery this fall.

Kevin Screen, a Criminal Justice major, is a two-time RMAC All-Academic selection. Screen has played in all 14 games averaging 2.4 assists per game, 2.3 rebounds and 2.1 points per game.

Landon Vermeer is a Business major and has played in all 14 games for the Mavericks. Vermeer is averaging 8.0 points per game, 2.2 rebounds per game and leads the team in 3-point field goals made.

To qualify for Academic All-RMAC a student athlete must have a grade point average of 3.30 or better and completed two consecutive semesters at their current institution.

CMU is 11-3 overall and 8-2 in RMAC play. The Mavericks are on a four game win streak and will host rival Western State Colorado University on Saturday night. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m.
