Air Force officially signed its newest recruit, Brian Davidson.
"You can't put into words how proud you are to send some kid to a D1 school," said Montrose Head Basketball Coach Martin Maloney. "The Air Force Academy is an elite institution. It's beyond words."
Words starting spreading about the 6-8 Wingman this summer as he dazzled scouts across the country showing great touch around the rim and his ability to knock down shots from the outside.
"We're ecstatic, the opportunity particularly right before Veterans' Day to be able to say that my son is going to go to a service acadamy, one of the top universities in the nation and play Division 1 basketball," said Brian's father Don Davidson. "Division 1 basketball is important but being able to serve your country and be at the Air Force Academy paticularly the fellows who are there, they are incredibly classy individuals, great coaches and Brian is looking forward to it."
"My family just took me everywhere," said Montrose Senior Brian Davidson. "They did everything for me to get me out to these tournaments and basically just to get out on to the scene and get seen by coaches."
Davidson becomes the first player ever to recieve a Division 1 basketball scholarship from Montrose High School.
"It's the first D1 kid we have had from our program and it is a great lesson for other kids to see that if they really work hard, deidcate themselves that they can accomplish just amazing things," said Maloney.
The best part about this hoop star is that he is a better person than a basketball player and as his mom explains a goal through the entire process has been to pay it forward.
"There are a lot of good basketball players in this state and on the Western Slope, but he would like to inspire them to go on and do the same thing," said Brian's mother Rhonda Davidson.
