Pueblo East Defeats Delta, Will Face Rifle in Semifinals

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.--No. 5 Pueblo East advanced to the Class 3A semifinals with a 35-24 victory over No. 13 Delta Saturday in the state quarterfinals.

The Eagles took a 28-10 halftime lead over the Panthers and made it 35-10 at the start of the fourth quarter.

But Delta kept fighting as Mitch Whiteside connected with his favorite target, Chris Black, on a 9-yard touchdown pass in the final seconds of the game.

Pueblo East will host No. 1 Rifle, who got past No. 8 Roosevelt 48-34, next weekend in the semifinals.
