Paonia - Delta County Sheriff's officials have released information about an apparent drunken fight between friends that left one man with a gunshot wound. Authorities say Monday night around 7:30pm, Delta County dispatch received a call of a shooting that happened at 41225 Willow Road in Paonia.

According to officials, 34-year-old Gregory Thompson got in a fight with two men. His alleged friend, 31-year-old Galen Forrester wood, is accused of shooting Thompson in the stomach with a shotgun.

According to reports, Wood claims he shot his friend after Thompson refused to leave the property. Sheriff's officials say that alcohol may have been a factor.

Thompson was rushed to delta memorial hospital, and later airlifted to St. Mary’s, where he's currently recovering.

Galen Wood is in the Delta County jail on a $60,000 bond. He is facing charges of first degree assault, felony menacing, and illegal discharge of a weapon.
