Candidate Proposes Change to Electoral College Participation

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A candidate for Colorado House District 55 has proposed an idea to redo Colorado's participation in the electoral college.

Dan Robinson says he cares about fairness and vote counting, and he wants to introduce legislation that would change how electoral votes are counted.

Robinson says the current system for casting electoral votes for the president typically doesn't recognize voters in the minority.

"Colorado would maybe turn out in this election, maybe 5-4: five for one candidate and four for the other. As it is, one candidate is going to get all nine, and that defeats the minority's interest. The minority ends up becoming irrelevant," said Robinson.

Robinson says the legislature has the authority to change that, so the electoral college votes can be recognized in their totality.

This would negate the purpose of the electoral college. May as well go with popular vote and have the 5 largest states elect the president.

I don't see an advantage in voting for a tax and spend liberal like Dan Robinson.
