GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Though the Bronco's failed to make it to this year's Super Bowl, Colorado and the Western Slope still have a tie to this year's game.
“If you said what are the 5 things you want to do in your life, or the 5 events, Super Bowl is going to be on that list,” said Dick Bell, sports management program coordinator.
Six students from Colorado Mesa University’s Sports Management Student Association are getting to knock that off their list. The group is traveling to New Orleans on Tuesday to work at this year's Super Bowl.
It’s experiential trip that faculty say will help them in the long run.
“We hope to have some good networking opportunities, some good people and make some good impressions and then follow up,” said Bell.
The students will assist with autograph signing, putting them in touch with all the athletes and coaches from both teams.
“It’s all about work experience,” said Sierra Zamora, student at CMU. “In the sports field, on-hand experience is important. Especially being able to put the Super Bowl on my resume will be huge.”
For Bauer, an international student from Kazakhstan, it's more than just a week of fun and getting out of class.
“It’s a big deal now because in my country, America football is not as popular,” said Bauer.
He says it's a big responsibility because when he goes back to his home country, he needs to share his experience.
“A lot of people from America don't have a chance to go, so for me, it’s a dream come true,” said Bauer.
A dream come true that faculty hope to make happen for future CMU students in the coming years as well.
“This is our inaugural season, inaugural super bowl, so we hope to repeat this in the future,” said Bell.
This year's Super Bowl will broadcast Sunday, on NewsChannel 5.
