Xcel Energy and GJFD Officials to Test Evacuated Homes

by KREX News Room

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Greg Trainer of the Public Works Department informed several evacuated families this morning that gas levels are still too high for the evacuation to be lifted.

Members of Xcel Energy and the Grand Junction Fire Department will test each evacuated home for the first time since the explosion.

Once all the homes are searched, officials will reevaluate if it is safe for residents to return to their homes.

Trainer says the highest gas readings are located at 7th Street between Texas St. and Orchard St.

Officials did say gas readings continue to decrease, and there may be a chance residents can return to their homes today.

Trainer mentioned that some gas has leaked into the soil, but no water sources have been affected in any way.
