Women's Recovery Center Giving Hope To Substance Abuse Patients

New changes are taking affect for women struggling with substance abuse in Mesa County.

Monday marked the grand opening of Colorado West Recovery Services program focused specifically on women.

The new program changed from a 21 Day co-ed treatment plan to a 90 day women specific program.

Just last year close to two hundred women living in Mesa County came to Colorado West looking for help.

An alcoholic at rock bottom, "I wanted to drink myself to death," Briana Bingham said.

A methamphetamine user chasing the high, "I neglected everything I loved, my children, my family and myself," Bambi Hall said.

Two women were heading down a path of destruction until one program helped them pull their lives together.

"It was either I was going to not want to live or I had to get help," Bingham said.

The Recovery Center is now gender specific, focusing on the needs of women and women with children.

"Women with children often find themselves looking for answers and help but it's so difficult when you're a parent," Colorado West's Adult Outpatient organizer, Audra Stock said.

Bambi Hall is one of those parents struggling with a drug addiction.

"I just needed to be high to get up to do anything. It was the only way I could function in life."

Two years into recovery, she's come full circle, first as a patient and now a counselor.

"I just want to see other woman have success and live in recovery and be a mom and be a daughter and a woman."

Briana Bingham is a recovering alcoholic using the program to transition back into society.

"They're going to help me with a job, help me with resumes, help me to live and still have a support group."

Bingham says admitting to her problem and getting treatment was the only way to move forward.

"The scariest part is reaching out to get the help but it changes your life."

The Women's Recovery Center currently accepts women and women with infants, by next year they hope to expand the program and accept women with children up to age ten.

If you have PTSD do not go to the Recovery Center. The Center indicated that they treat PTSD. My daughter was told, once she was admitted that they do not treat it. When she was admitted, she had to sign a statement indicating that no money would be returned to her, once admitted. The center is only for persons with drug or alcohol problems. It was a nightmare for my daughter.
