GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- With October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, one woman and her hair salon are going above and beyond to raise awareness.

Charlotte Meiners, a cancer survivor who lost her hair due to chemotherapy treatments, said it was one of the worst parts about being sick.

Now that Meiners is in full remission, she's decided to cut her hair to donate to Locks of Love to help out others who are losing their hair to cancer.

"It will give somebody the confidence that they need at that time in their life. It will change them; it will change their life. They'll be able to go on and not hide. I think it will be awesome. I hope it's cute," said Charlotte Meiners.

Harrahs Salon is giving free pink hair feathers and nail decals away to support breast cancer. However, they are asking that a donation is made.

The salon has shirts, self exams and other breast cancer awareness items for sale. All proceeds go directly toward breast cancer research.
