WHEAT RIDGE, Colo. - A former hospice worker who accepted almost $30,000 in donations after claiming she had cancer has been sentenced to time behind bars.

According to the Denver Post, a judge sentenced Jennifer Risa Stover of Wheat Ridge to 90 days in jail and six years of probation.

Prosecutors say she has repaid two people but still owes over $23,000 in restitution.

Prosecutors say that in 2010, Stover told co-workers that she had cancer and was undergoing treatment. Some co-workers donated their paid leave time to Stover so that she could continue to be paid while she supposedly couldn't work due to the treatments. Others gave her money to cover expenses.

After being caught lying about her illness, she pleaded guilty in January to attempted theft.
