GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Several agencies came together Tuesday night to teach the public the importance of wildfire preparation and prevention.
A workshop was held at 7 p.m. at the Glade Park Volunteer Fire Department in conjunction with Mesa County and the Upper Colorado River Interagency Fire Management Unit.
The goal of the workshop was to provide property owners with the skills necessary to properly mitigate wildfire threat. Officials say the risk is especially high for those living in urban wildlands.
Officials say the responsibility of wildfire prevention falls largely on home owners. They recommend residents clear any brush away from the base of trees, bushes and homes. In addition, try to keep tree branches from extending to a structure where a fire can easily spread.
