PITKIN COUNTY, Colo.- Firefighters quickly extinguished a small wildfire that threatened a neighborhood in Basalt on Saturday.

Pitkin County fire officials say the fire burned in pinyon and juniper trees on steep terrain.

Basalt and Rural Fire Protection District officials reported that witnesses saw the fire ignite at a shooting range on federal wildlife lands near Lake Christine.

The fire reached about an acre in size. Evacuation notices were promptly sent out, but have since been canceled.
