Suspected Western Slope Drug Ring Busted

by KREX News Room
by Matt Kroschel

Mesa County - Over the course of three days, the Western Colorado Drug Task Force arrested 13 adults and one juvenile, all suspected of being part of a significant drug distribution ring in Mesa County. The arrests come after an extensive investigation into cocaine distribution in our area that started in May 2011.

From the initial investigation detectives learned Federico Lerma was at the head of a drug distribution network that was responsible for bringing approximately three kilograms of cocaine into our area each month.

“In terms of our local area, the size of this distribution ring was significant,” said WCDTF Sgt. Gary Marak. “We believe the dismantling of this organization and the subsequent arrests will have a positive impact on the safety of our community.”

Now the defense trials start, probably with public defenders. Too bad they can't just be shot.
