MONTROSE, Colo.- With the fire danger remaining high across Colorado, some areas of the Western Slope are implementing stricter fire restrictions.

Crawford, Navajo, Paonia, Ridgway and Sweitzer Lake state parks are under Stage 2 restrictions.

Officials say the Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison national forests, public lands in Delta, Gunnison, Montrose, Ouray, Saguache and San Miguel counties will also be under Stage 2 restrictions starting Thursday.

Stage 2 fire restrictions prohibit building or maintaining a fire, campfire, or charcoal grill, even in developed camping and picnic grounds.

Smoking is prohibited except within an enclosed vehicle. Operating a chainsaw without an approved spark arrestor, as well as welding, is also prohibited.

Officials with Hinsdale and San Juan counties will implement Stage 1 restrictions starting Thursday.
