Welcome Home Montrose Opens New Warrior Center

MONTROSE, Colo.- In honor of the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the grassroots campaign Welcome Home Montrose hosted its first annual Patriot's Day tribute for emergency responders.

The nonprofit organization aids veterans in finding jobs, getting the council they need and joining community groups like clubs or churches.

More than 100 residents and veterans participated in the ribbon cutting of the group's Warrior Resource Center.

Welcome Home Montrose's founder and president Melanie Kline says the government lacks a program to help servicemen and women transition from the battlefield to their neighborhood.

"Once they've reached a community, there needs to be reintegration into civilian and family life. Communities all across America need to step up and do what they can to create that bridge or it's just not going to happen," said Kline.

Kline added that suicide, divorce and unemployment rates for veterans are lower in communities like Montrose that have strong support programs.
