GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Wayne N. Aspinall Building and U.S. Courthouse was re-dedicated this week after 23 months of construction.

The U.S. General Services Administration led the $15 million renovation of the 95 year old building.

The goal of this project was to create the GSA's first net-zero energy building on the National Register of Historic Places.

If this goal is met, the facility will produce 100% of its energy needed throughout the year.

"We did geothermal, we did solar, we've done a lot with windows to make them more secure, while still preserving the historic qualities of the building," said GSA regional administration Susan Damour.

Due to the upgrades, the Aspinall building is more than 50% more efficient than a typical office building.

The GSA owns nearly 500 historic facilities across the country.
