Local Wal-Mart Put Under Lockdown

by KREX News Room
by Courtney Griffin

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The Rimrock Avenue Wal-Mart was put on lockdown Sunday morning after threats were reportedly made by a man wandering the area.

Officials say a homeless man believed to be mentally ill was talking out loud about killing people.

He reportedly scared one customer walking by who then called the Grand Junction Police Department.

Officers deemed the area as high risk, saying the man might possibly have a weapon, so they put the store on lockdown.

Law enforcement quickly detained the man and determined he wasn't carrying any weapons; the man was later released.

Officials say there was no crime committed and the man was very apologetic for scaring people.

what kind of dummy gets mad at the GJPD for keeping people safe you idiot heaven forbid this man was not just running his mouth what if he had a gun and killed people you would be asking why the GJPD had not done something as for the school lockdown that man had a gun and until he was contacted by the pd no one knew if he was a threat or not ... what if someone had called concerned about the movie theater or the school or the grocery store shootings that happened this last month bet you would feel different if it was someone you cared about in danger

I feel good that GJPD erred on the cautious side. Having a mentally challenged relative in the area who frequents this Wal Mart, I would feel more confident in GJPD taking this action to prevent anything wrong from occurring.

First off YES & NO "Assinine"...the caller should be interviewed, the 911 call taker as well and see if the call was embellished or not and if so then take action, it's called False Reporting. I do agree this lock down thing is over used by this GJPD. One call for someone wandering making statements is not a reason for a lock down (my opinion only). Multiple calls with the true belief a weapon was seen might be. As for this caller, if one person believes they are in imminent danger of serious bodily injury or death...whether a weapon is seen or not or someone makes you believe they are armed then by Colorado Statute is a crime of Felony Menacing. The State needs to change the laws a little here in Colorado. By this GJPD standard the City should always be in lock down as people are always walking around making statements or utterances. Just another example of Vicarious Liability here due to lack of training and proper Supervision.

So a nut scares a nut and everyone around gets locked up by the cops. Obviously, the GJPD is incompetent. They can't seem to be able to deal with a deranged person. Without locking up a bunch of citizens. How long will you idiots go along with this stupidity? A few days ago, a citizen riding a bicycle caused two schools to imprison their students. Now it's a retail establishment. When will the people of GJ start demanding that we get a competent police chief and stop this idiocy! And someone ought to lock up the fool that called the cops.

So, he "reportedly scared one customer" and the whole place was locked down? Any chance that "one customer" was being a little paranoid?
