GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Many World War II veterans were honored this Labor Day weekend as a new memorial arrived in Grand Junction.

On Sunday the Western Slope Honor Flight held the unveiling and dedication ceremony of the World War II memorial.

Honor Flight is a group of people who support veterans from World War II.

They've been taking them on flights to see memorials in Washington, D.C. and now they've created a memorial in Grand Junction.

"I'm really proud of it. The people who sponsored it and got it going really worked hard to get it shaped up. It looks like they've done a wonderful job on it ," said Cal Coley, a World War II veteran.

Honor Flight completed five flights to the nation's capital, transporting over 530 veterans to visit memorials built in their honor.

The new monument in the Veterans Memorial Cemetery will stand as a tribute to those living and dead, who fought and died for the freedoms we have today.

They chose Sept. 2 for the ceremony since it is the 67th anniversary of V-J Day and the ending of World War II.
