WIC Might Shutdown in November
GRAND JUNCTION,Colo. On Friday, marks the fourth day of the government shutdown and some assistance programs in the area are in jeopardy. The Women, Infants and Children or WIC will be shutting down on November 1st if the government shutdown continues. Officials say they're still operating as usual for the month of October. However, there are some changes in how many vouchers will be given out. "When clients go in their only being given a voucher for healthy food for the month of October. Usually when you would go in for your appointment you would only have an appointment for every three months. so you would go in for your appointment and be given a voucher for three months of food,” said Communications Manager of Mesa County Health Department Veronica Daehn Harvey. Officials say WIC helps feed 27-hundred people, meaning 900 families could be impacted by the possible closure.
