RIFLE, Colo.- The Colorado State Veterans Home in Rifle celebrated a grand opening on Saturday, showcasing its $3.8 million expansion and upgrade. A grant was provided to the home by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
In addition to improving the look of the building, they updated their rehab gym, call system, phone system, nurse's station and air conditioning and heating systems.
Employees and residents say they're thrilled with the new additions.
Margie Maynard, the director of nurses at the home, said, "It's just an honor to serve them, but it's more of a home-like environment. Making and enriching the end of their days, it's just wonderful. Instead of the medical model, which it used to be, it's a lot of changes. And we're just a family here."
Officials say all of the renovations will be complete in about a month.
They're inviting the public to come visit the home to see how much they've grown.
