GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A veterans benefits representative is in town on Tuesday and Wednesday, lending vets a helping hand.

Barbara Martinez is an outreach coordinator and has set up at Java Junction Coffee Shop in Grand Junction until 2 p.m. on Tuesday.

She plans to discuss several different topics with local vets, and says there are many things folks aren't aware of.

“A lot of the times its non-service connected pensions that they are not aware of that they have those benefits,” said Martinez. “I also see a lot of people needing to file for service-connected disability too, even after many years of being out of the service.”

Martinez will stick around town on Wednesday, and plans to be at the Grand Junction Day Shelter from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

She then plans to head to Bridgett's D bar J Restaurant in Collbran from noon to 4:30 p.m.
