GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- On Saturday the community came together to help raise money for the Grand Junction Champs. They need funds to help get them to the National Veterans Golden Age Games.

About 15 team members are hoping to attend the games, which will be held in Buffalo, N.Y. in May 2013.

Participants say the cost per member will be about $1,500.

The team held a yard sale at the Grand Junction Veterans Affairs Hospital to help them reach their goal. "We're working our buns off just to raise the money. And the community has helped us so much and we sure appreciate their help," said Emma Folmsbee, the team captain.

Champs is an acronym formed from the following words: considerate, honest, athletic, motivated, patriotic seniors.

The group will also be hosting a golf tournament and bowling tournament in the upcoming months to help raise money.
