Update: Motorcycle Accident Fatality Identified

MESA COUNTY, Colo.- More information is released on the fatal motorcycle accident that happened early Saturday morning in Mesa County.

According to Colorado State Patrol, David Smithey, 49, of Grand Junction was riding his motorcycle westbound, on Colorado 50, mile post 35, when he tried to cross the highway and collided with Sharon Fladeland, of Delta's GMC Yukon.

Smithey was ejected from his bike.

Smithey was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

The cause of death was multiple injuries and the manner of death was accident.

Smithey was wearing a helmet.

Fladeland was not injured during the crash.

All westbound lanes of the highway were closed for several hours during investigation and cleanup.

ive seen to many accidents there and some waiting to happen.. my own daughter had a serious one there... i hope they do something about that intersection soon. before to many more lives are taken.. to the smithey family i am so sorry for your loss. you are in my prayers. and to ms. sharon you to will be in my prayers, thats something you should not have to live with..
