Incendiary Device Found in Orchard Mesa

by KREX News Room

Grand Junction - According to the Grand Junction Police Department, sometime between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM Thursday, the Grand Junction Bomb Squad disabled an unknown device at the Mesa County Landfill. Officials say a person walking on the Old Spanish Trail near Sunlight Drive found the device Tuesday afternoon and called 911 to report it. Mesa County Sheriff’s deputies initially responded and notified the Bomb Squad, which took possession of the device.

It appears to be a homemade incendiary device.

Officials say when the Bomb Squad renders the device safe, there is a possibility that people in the area will hear a loud explosion coming from the landfill. There is no cause for alarm, and no need to call 911.

For security reasons, neither the public nor the media will be allowed to view the activities of the bomb squad while they complete their work with this device. Officials ask residents to refrain from calling the landfill as they do not have the personnel available to handle inquiries regarding this incident.
