GRAND MESA, Colo.- A tragedy atop of the Grand Mesa has the U.S. Forest Service taking action.
In early January, Linda and Glen Eyre, of Grand Junction, were killed by an out of control vehicle in the parking area at the Grand Junction Nordic Council County Line Trailhead.
Senator Mark Udall called on The U.S. Forest Service and the Colorado Department of Transportation to work together to fix the existing lot that lacks areas for cars to slow down as they approach the parking area.
Since then, efforts have been made to improve the lot and on Aug. 21, the U.S. Forest Service is hosting a tour of of the changes.
In a statement, Udall expressed his excitement about the project moving forward, stating "I am proud of the U.S. Forest Service, and the Colorado Department of Transportation for making progress on these critical safety upgrades. This better, safer parking lot will ensure that tourists and outdoor enthusiasts can safely access the trailheads atop the Grand Mesa."
