USA Pro Challenge Misses Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- The bid Grand Junction put in to host the USA Pro Challenge has been denied.

After two years of trying, Grand Junction missed the map for next year's ride.

Wednesday, the new route came out for next year's USA Pro Challenge race, which includes eight Colorado cities.

It will start in the Aspen and Snowmass circuit, then riders will head to Breckenridge, Steamboat Springs, Beaver Creek, Vail for a time trial, Loveland, and Fort Collins before ending in the Denver circuit.

"I was disappointed, I think we're all disappointed. I wouldn't say I'm surprised. I thought we had a 50-50 chance at best. We will see, we will regroup and see for next year," said Scott Mercier, co-chair of the local organizing committee for USA Pro Challenge.

The USA Pro Challenge starts Monday, Aug. 18 in the Aspen and Snowmass circuit.

The race ends Sunday, Aug. 25 in Denver.

Further details of the start and finish line locations, as well as the specific detailed route, will be announced in the spring.
