MESA COUNTY, Colo.- Two pedestrians are dead after being hit by a vehicle just before 11:30 a.m. Saturday. It happened on the Grand Mesa off of Highway 65 near the Delta County Line.

Colorado State Patrol officials say 50-year-old Bradley McKee of Fruita, driving a Subaru headed southbound on Highway 65, pulled off to the right-hand shoulder to let vehicles go by. He then attempted to turn around into the northbound lane as a northbound Ford Explorer, driven by 21-year-old Joshua Ooms of Cedaredge, approached. Ooms swerved into a parking area to avoid the Subaru, lost control of the vehicle and hit two pedestrians, as well as a parked 2012 Buick Utility.

The pedestrians, an adult female and male, died on scene. Their identities have not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.

There were no injuries to the occupants inside the vehicles.

Alcohol and speed are not suspected as factors in the accident, however, officials are still investigating.
