MESA COUNTY - Three unrelated house fires, two in Grand Junction and one in Montrose, flared up on Wednesday night.
The first the fire was in a bedroom at 1251 Bookcliff Avenue. Authorities say crews were able to extinguish the blaze quickly. One male occupant was sent to the hospital and treated for smoke inhalation.
Just before 11 Wednesday night, firefighters were called to a second structure fire at 585 25 ½ Road.
The fire was a small fire in the kitchen area and had extended to the outside. The cause of the fire remains under investigation but the damage was minor. According to the American Red Cross, this blaze displaced a mother and her teenage daughter.
In Montrose, a fire at 1709 Canyon Court flared up shortly before 8:30. Authorities say leaking gas from a barbecue's propane tank led to a fire on the outside of the home, that worked its way into the attic.
Nobody was injured, but damage to the home is estimated at about $35,000.
