GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Before sitting down for a nice, large, Thanksgiving meal, more than 1,000 people got moving Thursday morning for an annual fundraiser.

The Grand Junction Fire Department hosted the 6th annual Turkey Trot to raise funds for the Colorado Union, Local Chapter 2808, and Toys for Tots.

Officials say they're expecting to raise around $30,000.

"This is actually my first turkey trot. It was really nice to see people come out and run, get out and move a little bit before they sit down and don't move at all," said Christine Gordon runner.

"It's a great time, we're really excited about the turn out," said Stacie Schreiner, volunteer with the Grand Junction Fire Department.

The 5k race offered free turkeys to the top competitors, along with free pancakes and orange juice to everyone afterward.

Organizers say the race held Thursday was the biggest turn out they've had yet.
