Tree Dispute in Delta County, Residents Want Answers

by KREX News Room
by Courtney Griffin

DELTA COUNTY, Colo.- Steven Horn, a resident of Delta County, went outside his house after hearing a loud crack, to find a large tree that fell on top of his car.

Horn says he has previously made several calls to the city asking them to maintain the trees, but they never responded. "I complained last year about a tree limb almost hitting my car and they still didn't come out and trim the trees."

City officials say they've never received any calls. "I'm not aware of any phone calls that have come through the front office as to any trees in that area that have had any issues," said Jolene Nelson, the city clerk with Delta County.

With no one held responsible, residents say they're left in a hazard zone. "There's a lot of stuff that needs to be done. It hasn't been maintained in several years," said a resident in the area who wanted to stay anonymous.

Horn's primary concern is to have the damages on his car paid for by the city, or whoever owns the property. "They said it's an act of God, and they probably won't cover it," said Horn.

City officials say otherwise. "That will be determined through the investigation and when the claim is filed. If the city is liable, then the city will look at that area. Once the form is completed we will send it to our insurance company and then they will get an adjuster out and investigate the claim," said Nelson.

Metoo Delta County has nothing to do with The City of Delta!!! The City owns the golf course and the Commissioners have no control over that. CITY COUNCIL...No surprise you slam something without getting your facts straight. you probably elected them and didnt even know!

I don't know about this Horn resident, but there are plenty of things that need attention here in Delta. The roads are in bad need of repair. It's really sad that they can find a half million dollars to keep the golf course funded every year, but they can't repair their roads. The recent study, which surely cost thousands, says that every resident pays $22 monthly to subsidize the golf course. Sad. Stupid.

Fed up, your spot on! Delta County could care less about anyone or anything that doesn't go with the good ole boy agenda of golf and me, me, me! Since we have a bunch of worthless County Commissioners here that won't fix the roads either it comes as no surprise that trees that have been neglected go untended. Don't hold your breath for help anytime soon, after all it's Delta GOP territory! Act of God hah,,lol...

Obviously Mr Horn doesn't play golf at Devil's Thumb Golf Course. Half a million dollars a year are spent to subsizdize it, but the streets are crumbling. Apparently someone on city council plays alot of golf!
