MESA COUNTY, Colo. On Monday the Mesa County Land Trust presented plans to create trails that would connect different corners of Grand Junction. They say it will also be safer for residents.

They want to create trails connecting the Tabeguache Trail and Lunch Loops to downtown and the Riverfront Trail. They also discussed a trail going up Monument Road towards South Camp.

Officials with the project believe it will be an asset for those who live here and for those visiting the area.

They want public input on the issue moving forward.

Rob Bleiberg, executive director of the Mesa County Land Trust, said, "After the first of the year we're going to kick-off a bunch of public meetings and other opportunities for the community to get involved in this planning effort. Our end goal is an off-road hard surface trail that helps connect some of the wonderful natural areas that we have here in Grand Junction."

Officials plan to meet with the public through focus groups and open houses. They also plan on meeting with school districts. Furthermore, they hope to create an online platform where the community can check on progress of the project and also give input.
