Trading in Tupperware for Self Defense Tools

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. A local woman is giving a whole new meaning to tupperware parties in the Grand Valley. Rather than bringing houseware into ladies' homes, she's selling stun guns, pepper spray and other safety gadgets to make sure Western Slope women stay protected.

One item, the Tiny Takedown, is a one million volt stun gun that will bring an attacker to their knees

Melanie Smith, the independent sales representative for Damsel In Defense, said, "I know the cosmetics are out there, the jewelry the bags. I wanted to do something unique and not flooding the valley."

The company that aims to make the "night in shining armor" a thing of the past.

"This will empower women to not be afraid of walking into a parking lot at night and won't depend on someone to protect them, you can protect yourself. There are people that may not be comfortable holding a gun or keeping a gun on them or in their house. These are non-lethal ways to protect yourself and protect your family." said Smith.

She was inspired to become a rep because of her mother and hopes to inspire her own daughter.

"My daughter is 14, she has a piece. She walks to and from Central High School. My biggest thing, teaching my 14-year-old how to be dependent on herself, not someone else."

Because we don't live in a fairy-tale, Smith and other reps want to prepare women and empower them to feel confident wherever their journey takes them.

She is holding an open house for people to come see the products. It will be on Thursday, March 7 at 6 p.m.

Call Smith at (970) 589-7962 for the address and for any additional questions.

PMS and a stun gun does not sound like a good combination.
