Town Hall Meetings Held for 2014 Mesa County Budget
DeBeque, Colo.- In an effort to prioritize the County's concerns, Mesa County Commissioner Rose Pugliese hosted the first of a number of meetings in DeBeque Monday evening. Pugliese presented the proposed 2014 County budget to the DeBeque City Council to explain how the $146 million dollar budget will be distributed and to determine which areas impact DeBeque the most. "Really, what were trying to do is just prioritize where our resources need to go. Our revenues are down this year, property taxes are down, lower than what we thought they were going to be and our sales tax hasn't really come back. And so that means decreased revenues for government,” said Pugliese. The Commissioners are proposing a five percent cut from last year. Overall, representatives from DeBeque were pleased with the proposal, but emphasized infrastructure as the top priority for the town in the immediate future. "It's what we do for our following generations is we make sure the infrastructure is passed on in good shape," said Wayne Klahn, Mayor of the town of DeBeque. The next meeting will be held on October 29th at the Mesa Community Center from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. That will be followed by a meeting in Clifton on October 30th, at the Starvin' Arvin’s from 5:30 until 6:30 p.m. Then on November 6th, a meeting will be held in Fruita at the Fruita Recreational Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The final meeting will be on November 7th in Grand Junction at the Mesa County Commissioners Public Hearing Room from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.
