GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- Grand Junction police picked up a huge tortoise off the road Tuesday.

The animal was found wandering down Patterson Road between 25 and 25 1/2 roads. One of the motorcycle officers pulled over and detained the massive tortoise, which weighed between 40 and 50 pounds.

It stayed close to the curb, but kept stepping into traffic before it was picked up.

The tortoise had a tag and Colorado Parks and Wildlife took it with them. It has since been returned to its owner.
